Day 1
Spend the day admiring art and nature
Head to Sainte-Flavie, just 55 minutes from Matane and follow the art trail, there are many different galleries, boutiques and expositions to see. Visit the Centre d’art Marcel Gagnon, whose work is world famous. Then visit Reford Gardens, a true plant paradise on the banks of the St. Lawrence, and one of the largest gardens in North America.

Day 2
Matane’s salmon
Visit Matane’s salmon run observation centre, where you can watch the salmon run and take advantage of the guides’ wealth of knowledge. You can also watch fisherman hard at work right in the centre of Matane. Then walk down the Promenade des Capitaines, you’ll come to the Place des Rochelais, where you can watch fisherman hard at work on the dock! Why not follow the locals’ example and fish for smelt on the dock? In the afternoon you can visit Vignoble Carpinteri for a guided tour of their wine cellar and a free tasting.

Day 3
Visit the Réserve Faunique de Matane
Head to the Réserve Faunique de Matane where you can take part in a number of activities. The Réserve Faunique de Matane has one of the highest concentrations of moose per square kilometer, making it the perfect place for moose-watching. Take part in a black bear-watching activity at dusk. The guide will help you to understand this fascinating creature’s habits and biology.

Day 4
Trip to Sainte-Anne-des-Monts
Head to Sainte-Anne-des-Monts, which is about 60 minutes from Matane. You can visit Exploramer, an activity centre focused on the St. Lawrence’s marine life, there’s an aquarium, museum, fish collecting activities and trips out to sea! Take the time to visit local artists and artisans; stop off at Nathalie Dumouchel’s ceramics workshop, or try some chocolate from Couleur Chocolat. You can also get a guided tour of the wind farm at Éole Cap-Chat!

Day 5
Spend the day in the Parc National de la Gaspésie
Located about 2 hours away from Matane, the Parc National de la Gaspésie is a must on any trip to the Gaspé Peninsula. This renowned hiking and wildlife watching spot crosses the Chic-Choc and McGerrigle Mountains. It’s also home to Mont Jacques-Cartier, the second highest mountain in Quebec. Apart from the endless sea of mountains, there are also plenty of Caribou, the only ones left south of the St. Lawrence. It’s the ideal location for a hike and to admire the fantastic view.
