Choose this itinerary and fill your lungs with fresh mountain air. You’ll depart eastward, toward Relais de Saint-Paulin, located at the edge of the Cap-Chat ZEC (controlled harvesting zone). Your route will continue toward the imposing Mont-Nicol-Albert, 884 meters (2900 ft) high. This singularly beautiful virgin landscape will enthrall you. Right at the heart of the Cascapedia River wildlife preserve, the Relais de la Cache rest stop offers all the amenities you’ll need. Continuing on toward New Richmond, you could spy a few dozen deer if you’re lucky.
On your second day, climb to the top of Mont-Saint-Joseph for a view of Carleton Bay and the barachois. Next you’ll traverse the Matapédia valley and its fields and forests. Enjoy every moment of your getaway ending in the Saint-Luc-de-Matane sector where you can admire the Saint Lawrence river and the town of Matane.
